Last season's Elite League Player of the Year is back with the Devils for another season.
Two goals from Joey Haddad and a goal and an assist from Mark Richardson highlighted an impressive home win for the Devils in front of another sold out Ice Arena Wales.
After a scoreless first period, the Devils opened the scoring 48 seconds into the second with Mark Richardson's shot finding its way through traffic past Joe Fallon to make it 1-0. The Devils went on the power play but it was the Stars who scored shorthanded when Cale Tanaka jammed the puck past Ben Bowns short side to tie the game at 23:26.
The Devils took the lead after another play initiated by Mark Richardson who shot the puck wide enough to bank off the back boards and Joey Haddad was there to bang it in past Fallon to put the Devils up 2-1 at 31:19. The period ended at 2-1 despite a power play chance for the Devils in the final two minutes.
The Devils finally scored on the powerplay when a broken play saw Ben Bowns fire the puck to Scott Hotham at the far blueline who one-touched the puck to Joey Haddad, who then blasted it past Fallon to put the Devils up 3-1 at 45:26. Then Josh Batch scored the goal of the night, going end to end and dangling through the Stars defence then firing the puck low past Fallon to round off the scoring, making it 4-1 at 46:48.
